Why Your Body Deserves the Same Attention as Your Face
You have a skincare routine. A real one.
You cleanse. You tone. Maybe you layer a serum before your moisturiser. You never skip SPF. You know your skin type, your concerns, your triggers. You’ve invested time and money and genuine thought into caring for your face.
And then you step out of the shower, reach for whatever’s closest, and call it done.
Sound familiar?
Most of us have a significant gap between how we care for our faces and how we care for the rest of our skin. It’s not laziness. It’s conditioning. The beauty industry has spent decades, and billions, telling us that the face is where the real work happens. The body was an afterthought. Something to moisturise quickly if we remembered at all.
But here’s what doesn’t get said often enough.
Your body skin is skin. The same organ. Subject to the same environmental stressors, the same hormonal shifts, the same gradual loss of elasticity and collagen that we work so hard to address on our faces. The only difference is that nobody photographs it for a campaign.
What neglect actually looks like
It’s subtle. Skin that feels tight after a shower. A dullness that isn’t quite explained by tiredness. Texture on the backs of arms that never quite smooths out no matter what you do.
Over time, skin that isn’t consistently nourished loses its bounce. The barrier weakens. Uneven tone and roughness settle in. These things don’t only happen on faces. They happen everywhere, quietly, gradually, until one day you notice and wonder when it started.
The part that always strikes me is this, body skin is actually more forgiving than facial skin. Less reactive. More responsive. The effort to reward ratio is genuinely better. Which makes the collective neglect all the more worth addressing.
Where to start
You don’t need a cabinet full of products. You need three. An exfoliator, an oil and a moisturiser, used consistently and in the right order.
Exfoliate two to three times a week to clear the path. Apply oil to warm, damp skin straight from the shower, the warmth opens the surface and the oil absorbs properly rather than sitting on top. Finish with a moisturiser suited to what your skin needs that day.
Do this consistently for four weeks. Pay attention. Your skin will tell you what it thinks.
Most people notice a difference within two to three weeks. Not a transformation, a shift. Skin that holds moisture differently. That catches light differently. That feels, simply, more cared for.
Because it is.
Your face has had its moment. The rest of you has always deserved the same.
