Why I Rebuilt from Scratch

Why I Rebuilt from Scratch

Ten thousand orders shipped. Six and a half years of making, testing, reformulating, packaging, sending, and hearing back from women who loved what landed in their hands. By any measure, Kiya Cosmetics was working.

So why does it no longer exist?

The product that built everything

Our hero product, the Sweet Nourishing Oil, was the one that started conversations, the one that got shared, the one that kept women coming back. Warm citrus, vanilla, jasmine. A body oil that smelled like the best version of a Saturday morning.

It's not coming back. A key ingredient is no longer available from our supplier. I made peace with that.

But if I'm honest, that loss did something useful. It forced me to stop trying to preserve what we'd built and start asking what it should become.

What Kiya Cosmetics couldn't hold

The original brand grew the way most small brands do, organically, in response to what people wanted, shaped by what I could make work on limited time and budget. It became real and beloved and genuinely useful to the women who found it.

But it had also become a little bit of everything. And when your brand is a little bit of everything, it ends up feeling like nothing in particular.

I wanted to make something more specific. Something that felt like it had a point of view. Something that knew exactly who it was for and what it was trying to do.

That's not something you can retrofit. You have to start again.

What Haus of Kiya is built to be

The name came before anything else, and it mattered.

Haus because this is a house, not just a product line. A space with a sensibility, a way of doing things, a standard that doesn't move. Kiya because the history is real and it's worth carrying forward, not as nostalgia, but as foundation.

The brand tagline is skin that feels like home. That's not a marketing line. It's a brief.

It means body care that doesn't ask you to become someone else. Formulations that work with your skin rather than over it. An experience that feels like return rather than aspiration.

We're building slowly and intentionally. The products are in development. The rituals are being thought through properly. Nothing will launch until it's ready to be exactly what we say it is.

Why slow is the right speed

There's a version of this story where I launch everything at once and call it a rebrand. That's not this.

Haus of Kiya will have a small, considered range. Amber glass. Parchment labels. Formulations developed properly, for women who actually want to know what's going on their skin.

If you've been here since the early Kiya days, thank you. The ten thousand orders, the emails, the repurchases, that's what made this feel worth doing properly.

If you're finding us for the first time: you've caught us in the build. Come along anyway.
