Why Body Care Deserves the Same Attention as Skincare

Why Body Care Deserves the Same Attention as Skincare

Somewhere along the way, we decided that our faces deserved the good stuff and the rest of us would make do.

The average woman's bathroom tells this story very clearly. Serums, retinoids, SPF, eye cream, toner, essence, a considered, layered, well-researched routine for approximately 9% of the skin's total surface area. And then a bottle of whatever body lotion was on offer for the other 91%.

I've thought about this a lot. And I think it comes down to visibility.

The visibility problem

We see our faces. We look at them in mirrors every morning, in phone cameras throughout the day, in every video call and photograph. The feedback loop is immediate, if something isn't working on your face, you notice quickly.

The body is largely out of sight for most of the day. We cover it. We only really see it when we're changing or in the shower, and then we're not really looking, we're just getting on with things.

But skin is skin. The body's skin ages. It loses moisture. It responds to stress and poor sleep and environmental exposure in exactly the same way the face does. The difference is we don't notice until it's more pronounced, until the dryness is visible, or the texture is rough, or the lack of attention has accumulated into something that's harder to address.

What the body's skin actually needs

The same principles that apply to facial skincare apply here, just in simpler form.

Cleansing, gently, without stripping. Exfoliation, chemically rather than aggressively, once or twice a week. Hydration, layered, applied to damp skin, with ingredients that actually last. And protection from environmental damage, including, yes, SPF on any exposed skin in summer.

The body's skin is more forgiving than the face, it has fewer oil glands and fewer nerve endings, which means it responds more slowly. This works in your favour. You don't need ten products. You need the right two or three, used consistently.

Why I built Haus of Kiya around this idea

When I was working in luxury medical aesthetics on Harley Street, I saw how much time, money, and research went into facial treatments and very little conversation about the skin below the neck. Patients would come in for face treatments and then go home and use whatever body lotion was cheapest because nobody had told them it was worth investing in.

That gap bothered me. It still does.

The body is where you live. It's the skin you're in every single day, not just when someone can see it. Soften Whipped Body Butter was formulated for exactly this reason: to bring the same level of ingredient consideration to body care that most people only apply to their faces.

You deserve the good stuff. All of you.
